GOOD LISTENS FOR THE END OF 2022

We love music, podcasts, and audiobooks! And we see connections between all kinds of culture and the work we do.
The Allusionist 164. Emergency. Host Helen Zaltzman explores the question "When is a war not a war?" in regards to the Malayan Emergency. While the specific context is different, the reasons feel equally as relevant for the "Conflicts" in U.S. History.
Articles of Interest: American Ivy [Podcast Series] A fascinating seven part series from Avery Trufelman about the style that emerged on Ivy League campuses and its interconnectedness with Jewish immigrants, Japan's fashion modernization, consumer fashion, and urban streetwear. Well worth a listen!
Maintenance Phase [Podcast series] - for a couple of years, I've seen this podcast about "Wellness and weight loss, debunked and decoded," on A LOT of best of the year lists. I finally delved into the back catalogue this Fall, and its opened my eyes to so many problematic ideas and messages about weight that were the water I swam in all through my upbringing. I particularly appreciate how the hosts - Michael Hobbes and Aubrey Gordon - delve into the scientific research. Two great (and deeply frustrating episodes to start with): The Body Mass Index and Snackwell's Cookies.
Criminal Episode 201: The Tylenol Murders. I grew up in the Chicago Suburbs in the 1980s and 90s and had always had a vague sense of the "Tylenol Murders" that occurred in 1982. This episode of Criminal episode delves into the story of what happened, and why it remains unsolved with two investigative reporters from the Chicago Tribune who published a series on the 40th anniversary of this tragedy.
Songs we can't get enough of: SNAP by Rosa Linn (Armenia's Eurovision entry); Affirmation Song by Doggyland & Snoop Dog; and Waloyo Yamoni (We Overcome the Wind) by Christopher Tin featuring Soloists: Jimmer Bolden, Allie McNay.
